​After months of training, several members of the Power Miler Track Club will be competing in goal half marathons this weekend. Casey Keiser, Wayne Pertuit, and Jeff Gennusa are headed to Baton Rouge for the Louisiana Half Marathon. Keiser is returning to the race where he finished runner-up in 1:13:50 last year. 

PMTC is also returning to Houston, where the club won the 2016 Team Challenge for the Overall, Marathon, and Running Club Categories. Rich Bouckaert, Drew Haro, Patrick Aucoin, and Jimi Smith are competing in the half marathon, while Zach Cater-Cyker will take on the full marathon distance. 

In Florida, Mark Kirkikis will aim for a high finish at the Key West Half Marathon. Good luck to all those competing this weekend!

The Power Milers headed to Tallahassee this weekend to compete against some of the best runners in the country at the USATF Club Cross Country National Championships. The meet was held Saturday on a challenging course at Apalachee Regional Park. PMTC fielded one team for the Men's Masters 10K race and two squads for the Men's Open 10K.

​Brandon Wingate led the master's team to a 13th place finish out of 16 teams. Wingate fought injury to finish 71st overall in a time of 36:27. 

​Leading the charge for PMTC's "A" team in the open 10K race were Patrick Aucoin (167th, 33:05) and Richard Bouckaert (177th, 33:21). The "A" team finished 27th out of 36 complete teams. 
​

​Will Kirkikis lead the Power Miler "B" team to a 33rd place finish with a 34:06 performance.
​

This is the third consecutive year the Power Milers have fielded a team for the race, and 27th overall is the highest ever finish for the club. The team will look to improve on their showing at next year's race to be held in Lexington, KY.

Professional runners to contest the 2016 RRCA Southern Region Mile Championship
on July 30

The 2nd Annual Power Mile Road Race returns to Lakeview's Harrison Avenue on Saturday, July 30. This year's race will feature several elite runners and will serve as the RRCA Southern Region One Mile Championship.

Headlining the men's field will be Under Armour professional miler Frezer Legesse, along with Louisiana native and RADrabbitPRO elite Brock Moreaux. Hailing from Oklahoma City, Legesse recently competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials and holds a personal best of 3:57 for the mile. Moreaux, a former runner for McNeese State, ran his best mile in 4:05 at the State Street Mile on June 5.

On the women's side, several members of local team Louisiana Distance Project are favored to compete for top honors. Among the favorites will be local standout Malia Cali.  Malia has a 4:56 personal best, which she set in high school while attending St. Thomas Aquinas in Hammond, LA. She is currently in her 3rd year of medical school at Louisiana State University.

The Power Mile will take place in front of Edward Hynes Charter School at 990 Harrison Avenue. The night begins with a 1/2 mile youth run at 6:15 pm and an open mile at 6:30. The elite runners will compete in the championship race at 7:00 p.m., followed by a family-friendly party featuring live music from LC Smoove, food and beverages, and the presentation of awards. The post-race party is free for race participants and $10 for spectators. 
 
Proceeds from the event will benefit Edward Hynes Charter School Athletics, Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.), and Power Miler Track Club.

The Power Milers headed off road Friday for Xavier's Big Easy Cross Country Opener at City Park. Accustomed to racing against one another on the road, club members competed as a team in an early test ahead of USATF Club Cross Country Nationals in December.  

Drew Haro took an early lead and held on for the win with a time of 15:56 over the challenging new three mile course. Rich Bouckaert followed in 16:10, and Brandon Wingate overcame an early fall to finish third in 16:15. Will Kirkikis and Sean Allerton rounded out PMTC's top five in 16:33 and 16:37, respectively.
